The 2016-17 season will be Irvin Jerry's 7th year at SDC and 4th as the head coach. Coach Jerry served as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator from 2009-2012. Coach Jerry has a wealth of experience in the ministry and as a coach. He has been heavily involved in spreading the Gospel, having served as a minister and youth leader in his father's church. "God has given me a heart to help guide and mentor youth, I enjoy working with and helping young
people grow spiritually," said Jerry.
Coach Jerry has coached girl's and boys’ basketball locally at Scripps Ranch, Hilltop and Sweetwater High School. As a head varsity coach at Hilltop and Sweetwater High School, Coach Jerry was able to rebuild each program into playoff teams and competitive teams in league play.
From 2009-2012 Coach Jerry was instrumental in helping guide the Lady Hawks into their most successful run since the inception of the program. In the 2011-12 season, the Lady Hawks posted the program's first 20 win season and followed that up with a 17 win season.
Coach Jerry's focus is on helping instill Godly characteristics into his players. "My goal is for my actions to reflect my love for Christ." He also believes in teaching fundamentals on both sides of the court and works to inspire players to reach their potential on and off the court.
Coach Jerry earned his BS in Kinesiology from San Diego State University in 2003. He also earned his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Point Loma University in 2010.
Coach Irvin Jerry resides in Chula Vista, CA with his wife Kristina and son Isaiah.
Coach Denise Bennett graduated from Santana High School where she led her team to two CIF championships and two league championships. She also earned her team’s MVP award for 2 consecutive years. Bennett played collegiate basketball at Cuyamaca where she earned First Team All League and was voted her team’s Defensive Player of the Year. She later transferred to Grossmont College and was again selected to All League honors.
She earned a Bachelor Degree in Sociology at San Diego State University. From 2013-2016 she has been the Head Varsity Coach at Torrey Pines High School where in her three years has won two Palomar Championship League titles as well as the team playing in the California State Playoffs all three years. While Coaching at the High School Level, she has helped players continue their basketball career at various Collegiate levels which include Oregon University, Beloit College, Western Arizona as well as Sonoma State. Coach Bennett is excited to join San Diego Christian College Women Basketball Team and work along side Coach Irvin Jerry.
