FULLERTON, Calif. – An 11-0 run to start the game was a great starting point for the SDC Men's Basketball team as they traveled to No. 2 Hope International Tuesday night.
But the Royals came back and defeated the Hawks 63-53 with the help of three HIU players in double figures.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-13 overall and 0-10 in GSAC play. The Royals improve to 21-1 on the season and 9-1 in conference with their lone loss coming against Concordia.
Peter Beale-Wirsing (SR/San Diego, CA) led the Hawks with 15 points and 14 rebounds. He helped SDC get off to a great start scoring seven of the first 11 points. He hit two 3-pointers and a free throw as Daniel Nielsen (JR/Grandview, WA) hit two jumpers to give SDC the 11-0 lead early on which forced Royals head coach called a timeout to figure things out.
Whatever he said worked as the Royals going on a 16-2 run to lead 16-13. HIU wouldn't relinquish the lead heading into halftime 33-25.
The Royals then found themselves up a game-high 23 points with 14:48 remaining. SDC would only get within 10 but not any closer.
The Hawks will welcome Biola on Saturday at Grossmont College with the tipoff starting at 7:30 p.m.
