EL CAJON, Calif. – The Hawks shot 43 percent from the field and forced 14 turnovers but it wasn't enough for the first GSAC win as they fell to the Warriors of William Jessup 68-58 Thursday night.
SDC couldn't stop Chris Murry, who scored a game-high 30 points. Murry was 9-of-14 from the floor draining nine 3-pointers. He added three points from the charity stripe and added two assists.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-11 overall and 0-8 in conference. The Warriors improved to 12-8 and 3-4 in the GSAC.
The start of the game was all SDC as they scored the first six points of the game. Michael Lambert (JR/Irvine, CA) started off with a layup and Peter Beale-Wirsing (SR/San Diego, CA) tallied the other four.
William Jessup grabbed their first lead with 11:10 remaining in the first, 15-14. That was the last time the Hawks held the lead. The Warriors kept it rolling to lead by 10 at the break.
The Hawks, trailing by as much as 20 in the second half, started to cut the deficit with their full-court press that resulted in turnovers and points. They were down in single digits (9) with 2:18 remaining, but the Warriors held on for the win.
Beale-Wirsing led the Hawks with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Deion Davis (FR/San Diego, CA) was next with 11 and Lambert ended the double-figure scoring with 10.
SDC will play one last exhibition of the season as they travel to Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday.
