SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Derrick Thompson (SR/San Diego, CA) scored 11 points and Prince Arceneaux (JR/Los Angeles, CA) added 10 for the Hawks as they fell to (RV) Westmont College Thursday night 75-49.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-9 overall and 0-6 in conference play. The Warriors improved to 12-6 and 4-1 in the GSAC.
Arceneaux got the scoring going for the Hawks with a basket two minutes into the game. He received a pass from Michael Lambert (JR/Irvine, CA) and completed the jumper. Westmont would get their lead to seven with 12:03 remaining in the half.
SDC then went on an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the game. Shayne Travers (SO/Eugene, OR) started the run with a two free throws. Rafael Rodriguez (SR/Santiago, Dominican Republic) hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to two. Rodriguez then made a second-consecutive trey to give SDC the lead at 19-18 with 11:05 to go in the first.
But the Warriors turned things on the rest of the half to give themselves a 12-point lead at the break.
Rodriguez and Arceneaux led SDC with six points apiece at half. Westmont held the Hawks to 31 percent from the floor as they shot 42 percent and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
In the second, it was all Westmont as their lead grew by as much as 30 with 7:50 left in the game. Mark Eden (FR/Ontario, CA) and Michael Lambert scored the last points for the Hawks in the game with 1:31 remaining.
SDC will have a day off tomorrow before heading to the Master's College on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
