SAN DIEGO – For the fourth year in a row, the San Diego Christian Men's Basketball team squared off against national powerhouse San Diego State University.
Peter Beale-Wirsing (SR/San Diego, CA) scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Aztecs defeated the Hawks 72-50 Saturday night in front of 12,414 fans, the largest so far this season for the Hawks.
With the win, SDSU improves to 10-3 overall and 8-0 in Viejas Arena. The game was counted as an exhibition for the Hawks.
Beale-Wirsing made one of his triples early in the game to cut the deficit down to one for the Hawks, trailing 8-7 with 14:37 remaining in the half. Derrick Thompson (SR/San Diego, CA) and Prince Arceneaux (JR/Los Angeles, CA) each made a bucket to keep the score within two.
But then SDSU went on a 15-0 run to take control and wouldn't relinquish to end the half up 38-20, and would continue in the second half, extending their lead to its largest at 32 with 10 minutes remaining in the game.
The Hawks shot 33.9 percent from the floor and 5-of-22 from beyond the arc. SDC did outrebound the Aztecs 39-38 in the contest.
SDC travels throughout the night and will play Northern Arizona Sunday with a tipoff schedule for 2 p.m.
