REDDING, Calif. – Plagued with injuries so far this season, the San Diego Christian Men's Basketball team traveled to Simpson University suiting up with only eight players.
After grabbing a first half lead, the Red Hawks used a big second half to defeat the Hawks 88-81 Friday night.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 3-2 and the Red Hawks improve to 6-7 on the season.
The two teams battled early on sharing buckets. Simpson's biggest lead in the first was at the 14:10 mark left in the half with a 17-12 lead. SDC came back throughout the half and went into the break leading 39-37.
Prince Arceneaux led the team with 12 points going 6-of-8 from the floor in the first.
Simpson was able to erase the two-point halftime deficit jumping to a 10-point lead halfway through the second half scoring 28 points in the 10 minutes as the Red Hawks led 65-53.
The Hawks would cut the deficit to six in the second half with 59 seconds remaining in the game but that was the closest they would get.
Peter Beale-Wirsing tallied 14 points and 15 rebounds. Rafael Rodriguez was tops on the team with 16 points. Daniel Nielsen was next with 15 while Arceneaux (14) and Mark Eden (12) were also in double figures
SDC shot 48 percent from the floor and 9-of-24 from beyond the arc.
The Hawks will travel to Angwin, CA to take on the Pioneers of Pacific Union tomorrow.
