LOS ANGELES – The San Diego Christian Men's Basketball team traveled to Loyola Marymount University Sunday night in their third NCAA Div. I game of the season.
The Lions defeated the Hawks 82-60 in an exhibition game for SDC.
LMU improves to 2-2 on the season.
Peter Beale-Wirsing made a layup off an assist from Rafael Rodriguez for SDC's first points of the game. Beale-Wirsing made another jumper two minutes later but the Hawks trailed 10-4. Evan Payne and Ayodeji Egbeyemi teamed up to score all the points for the Lions in the early going.
LMU increased their lead to 20-8 before the Hawks went on a 6-2 run to bring it within single digits.
SDC trailed 34-20 at the break.
After trading buckets for most of the early portion of the second half, the Hawks went on a 10-1 run to cut the deficit down to seven. Rodriguez led the charge with five points as Beale-Wirsing and Davis added two apiece during the run with LMU leading 51-44.
But that was the closest SDC would get as the Lions took charge the rest of the way.
Daniel Nielsen scored a team-high 16 points off the bench. Beale-Wirsing and Rodriguez tallied 13 and 12 points, respectively.
SDC will hit the road again next week with games at Simpson College on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 at Pacific Union.
