SANTEE, Calif. – The San Diego Christian College baseball team continued earning its accolades for the 2014 season as four players and Coach Bando were honored by the conference.
Cade Gotta earned GSAC Player of the Year after a marvelous season and Coach Bando was credited GSAC Coach of the Year, leading his team to its first ever GSAC regular season title.
Gotta led the conference in average (.409), hits (79), runs (64), total bases (131), and stolen bases (38).
Gotta was also named to the All-GSAC Team as an outfielder. He was joined by fellow outfielder Chad Erickson who finished the season leading the GSAC in RBIs with 46. He also hit .366 on the season, seven homers, scored 61 runs, and stole 14 bases. Joining the two are Jeff Lusardi and Gabriel Hemmer.
Lusardi manned the hot corner for the Hawks and was awarded at that position. He finished the regular season hitting .342, seven homers, 46 RBI and 24 runs. He only recorded seven errors on the season good enough for a .964 fielding percentage.
Hemmer was one of three pitchers recognized by the conference. He finished with an ERA of 3.14 and a record of 11-3. He ranks second in total wins in the nation with 11 and fifth in the nation with 107 strikeouts.
