SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The San Diego Christian College baseball team scored seven unanswered runs to overcome an early 3-0 deficit to defeat No. 12 ranked The Master's College 7-3 Saturday to take sole possession of first place in the Golden State Athletic Standings.
The No. 22 ranked Hawks improve to 23-8 overall and 15-6 in conference and are now a 1/2 game ahead of the Mustangs who fall to 23-7 overall and 15-7 in GSAC play.
Mark Vasquez earned the win for SDC throwing seven innings allowing 10 hits, three runs, two earned, and striking out three to improve to 4-3 on the year. Joey Aquino threw two innings of relief allowing just one hit.
The Master's got to Vasquez early as the Mustangs tagged him for three runs in the bottom of the first including a 2-run homer by Joe Riddle. Riddle finished 2-for-4 at the plate including his second deep ball of the season.
After another two scoreless frames, SDC found the scoreboard again and took the lead for good. The Hawks scored four runs off four hits to take a 6-3 lead. Erickson singled homed Gotta for the last run in the top of the ninth.
SDC collected nine hits compared to The Master's 11. Each team committed two errors.
The two teams will face off tomorrow in Santa Clarita for a double header starting at noon.
