EL CAJON, Calif. – San Diego Christian and No. 13-ranked Concordia battled for 40 minutes in a crucial GSAC game in the Ryan Athletic Center.
The Hawks erased a 12-point lead late in the second half to tie the game, but the Eagles found a way to win as they defeated the Hawks 72-67 Saturday night at Homecoming.
SDC trailed 64-52 with 9:41 remaining before the Hawks went on 15-4 run to get the deficit down to one point. But turnovers plagued the Hawks down the stretch as SDC turned the ball over three times in the final two minutes and failed to score during that stretch to force the overtime or steal the win.
The Hawks shot very well from the floor shooting 49 percent from the field. They hit 7-of-12 3-pointers for a 58.3 percent clip. The Hawks held Concordia just to 42.9 percent and 4-of-18 from deep (22.2 percent).
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 8-11 overall and 4-6 in conference play. The Eagles improve to 19-7 and 6-4 in GSAC competitions.
The Eagles had four scorers in double figures.
The Hawks hit the road next week for two GSAC games. They arrive in Phoenix for a game against Arizona Christian. Saturday they travel to The Master's College tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
