IRVINE, Calif. – After two consecutive GSAC victories, the men's basketball was defeated by No. 8 ranked Concordia University 94-55 Saturday night.
The Eagles led or were tied from start to finish.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in GSAC play. The Eagles improve to 16-4 and 3-1 in conference.
Kwaminique Brandon led all scorers with 15 points. Derek Dickerson was next with 11 points. SDC shot 32.2 from the field and 4-of-15 (26.7 percent) from deep. Lambert collected 15 rebounds and scored eight points.
SDC was trailing 8-5 early on until Dickerson hit his first 3-pointer of the night to tie it up 8-8. But the Eagles poured it on leading at the break 44-30.
Another 3-pointer hit by Dickerson with 13 minutes left in the game brought the score within 12 points, their closest deficit of the second half. Concordia would go on a big 26-3 run to finish off the game. The last SDC field goal was at the 10:33 mark left in the game.
The Eagles shot 56.3 percent from the field and 7-of-14 from 3-point range. Concordia also led the rebounding battle grabbing 46 rebounds to SDC's 34. The Eagles also forced 19 turnovers.
The Hawks look to rebound from the loss as they take on Arizona Christian on Tuesday. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
