IRVINE, Calif. – The Men's basketball team traveled to play its last NCAA Div. I team, this time one from the Big West Conference.
The Hawks fell victim to the Anteaters Saturday night 91-56.
The contest was an exhibition game for SDC so their record remains at 3-5. UCI improves to 8-7 on the season.
SDC held tough in the first half against the 'Eaters. Kwaminique Brandon hit a free throw to pull within two points, as UCI held the 17-15 lead with 8:49 remaining in the first. Brandon contributed to six of the first 15 points. He finished with 11 points and four assists. Michael Lambert led the team with 12 points. Jhoan Camacho was next with 10.
The Hawks went into halftime down 31-19. SDC never led in the game.
The Anteaters controlled the second half outscoring the Hawks 60-37. UCI finished shooting 58.6 percent from the field. They were a cold 3-of-16 from beyond the arc. Will Davis II scored a game-high 17 points.
San Diego Christian shot a 29.9 percent clip from the field and 6-of-24 from 3-point range. The Anteaters held the advantage in rebounds (45-33), turnovers (13-14), and assists (24-10).
The Hawks will have a day off Sunday and will return to action on Monday against Multnomah University from Portland Oregon tipping off at 7 p.m.
