With the win, the Antelopes improved to 4-3 on the season and the Hawks remain at 1-2 as the game was played as an exhibition for SDC.
The Hawks kept it close for the majority of the first half. After Grand Canyon scored the first five points of the game, SDC came clawing back to get the score within one. Josh Richardson converted the 3-point play to make it a 9-8 GCU lead.
The Antelope lead would stretch to double digits with just 5:44 left in the half. A layup by Michael Lambert with 3:49 remaining kept it a 10 point lead as the Antelopes led 33-23. GCU would go on an 9-5 run to finish the half leading 42-28.
The Antelope's jumped out of the gate quickly again in the second half scoring the first 10 points after the intermission and brought their lead to 52-28 before Jhoan Camacho made a layup to stop the scoreless streak for the Hawks with 16:26 left in the game.
Trailing 65-36, the Hawks went on a brief 8-2 run as SDC created two turnovers in the span of two minutes. But the Antelope's proved too strong as they came out with the victory.
SDC finished shooting 40.4 percent from the floor including 46.7 from beyond the arc. The Antelope's shot an even better 57.7 percent but were held to just 28.6 percent from 3-point land. GCU's Killian Larson led all scorers with 31 points.
The Hawks will put their NCAA Div. I tour on hold as they welcome No. 12 ranked Cal State San Marcos on Dec. 4. Game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Ryan Athletic Center.
