FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State kept San Diego Christian to just 34 percent from the floor as the Bulldogs defeated the Hawks 92-59 Monday night.
SDC shot only 27.8 percent in the first half and missed on all 3-point attempts. The Hawks picked it up in the second shooting 41.2 percent. Rafael Rodriguez led the Hawks with 13 points in 19 minutes. Trevor English was next with nine. Josh Richardson and Jhoan Camacho tallied a team-high six rebounds.
Fresno started on a 6-0 run to start of the contest before SDC scored its first points of the game. English converted a layup assisted by Kwaminique Brandon with 16:02 remaining in the first. The Bulldogs then went on a 13-0 run for to take a commanding 19-2 lead. Fresno State led by as much as 26 points leading 42-16 with 1:58 remaining.
The Bulldogs shot 51.9 percent in the first. Fresno State finished shooting 54.1 percent from the floor.
After the Bulldogs made the first two buckets to start off the second, the Hawks went on a 6-0 run. Camacho, English, and Derek Dickerson each contributed a basket to cut the Fresno State lead to 23 at 49-26.
But the Bulldogs were overpowering and led late in the game by 42 points. SDC scored the last seven points of the contest.
Fresno State controlled the boards collecting 50 rebounds to SDC's 29. Karachi Edo had a game-high five blocked shots. He also added 10 points. Six Bulldogs were in double figures.
SDC will have three days off before they run into another NCAA Div. I opponent. The Hawks will travel to Phoenix to play Grand Canyon University on Nov. 29. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
