FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Derek Dickerson had a season-high 28 points against NCAA Div. I Northern Arizona University but his efforts and that of the Hawks fell short Saturday afternoon 83-59.
Dickerson shot 50 percent (9-of-18) from the floor including 8-of-15 from beyond the arc. Only one other SDC player successfully made a deep ball as the team finished 9-of-28.
NAU finished the first half with a 42-25 lead. The Lumberjacks shot 56.7 percent for the half and held the Hawks 27.6 from the field.
SDC's last lead in the game was three points with 18:14 remaining in the half.
In the second half, the Hawks shot much better from the floor and the best in any half this week, which included San Diego State University and University of San Diego. SDC shot 46.4 percent and 6-of-15 in 3-pointers.
NAU was even better than the Hawks as they shot 55.6 percent. The Lumberjacks finished shooting 56.1 from the field. NAU dominated down low with 46 points in the paint and holding a 43-22 rebounding advantage. Their largest lead was by 24 at 6:41 remaining in the game.
Jhoan Camacho led the Hawks in rebounds with six. He added 10 points.
NAU had five different scorers reach double figures. Max Jacobsen led the team with 15.
The Hawks will come home and have two days off before they play yet again another NCAA Div. I team. They travel to Fresno to take on Fresno State. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
