EL CAJON, Calif. – San Diego Christian's Tyler Sanborn pitched seven strong innings behind 15 Hawk hits en route to an 11-2 victory over Arizona Christian in a crucial Golden State Athletic Conference battle Friday.
With the win, SDCC moves one-half a game ahead of the Firestorm for third in the GSAC standings. The Hawks improved to 25-13 on the season and 12-13 in GSAC play. Arizona Christian falls to 20-15 on the season and 13-15 in conference.

The Hawks were able to get on the board first after three scoreless innings for both teams. After a sacrifice fly from Cade Gotta plated Garrison McLagan, Peter Hoyt singled up the middle to score Taylor Eichhorst from second. A RBI groundout from Christian Johnson ended the scoring in the fourth inning as SDCC led 3-0.
San Diego Christian added two more runs in the fifth before the Firestorm scored a pair in the sixth. Seth Neely took the first pitch he saw from Sanborn and drove it over the right field fence for a two-run homerun.
The Hawks responded and erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Gilbert Viera led off with a solo homerun to right field, his first on the season. SDCC collected six more hits and brought 12 batters to the plate in the inning and pushed the lead to 11-2.
Gotta led all Hawks with three hits. The GSAC Player of the Week drove in two and scored one, while five others (Chad Erickson, Eichhorst, Hoyt, Vierra, and Johnson) collected two hits each.
The two teams will complete a double header Saturday in their last meetings of the regular season. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
