SANTEE, Calif. – After 87 minutes of play, Patrik Borchmann broke the scoreless tie to help the SDC men's soccer team defeat La Sierra 1-0 Thursday.
Borchmann collected a pass from Christian Garcia and was able to beat the keeper to the ball and slot it home.
With the win, the Hawks improved to 2-1 on the season. The Golden Eagles fall to 0-3.
While Borchmann scored the game-winner, Xavier Snaer-Williams was the man of the match. Snaer-Williams saved multiple point-blank shots from La Sierra and made some diving stops to record the clean sheet. The Golden Eagles took 23 shots and Snaer-Williams stopped 12 of them.
Snaer-Williams made his presence known early with a diving stop just three minutes into the game. The Golden Eagles outshot the Hawks 13-3 in the first 45 minutes. LSU hit the post in the first half and later hit the crossbar in the second half.
Borchmann had a shot on goal earlier before his game-winner but was saved. He and Nicholas Duarte led the team with two shots apiece.
The Hawks will take a day off before they hose Ottawa-Arizona Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Cuyamaca College.
