With the loss, the Hawks fall to 6-12 overall and 2-7 in conference play. The Firestorm improve to 13-7 and find their first GSAC win of the year (1-7).
SDC started off on the right foot as Novsek scored the first six points, two 3-pointers, for an early 6-0 lead. A tie game with 14:10 remaining in the half, the Firestorm took a 12-10 lead and never looked back. ACU extended their lead by as much as 10 points multiple times, including the halftime score with the Firestorm up 38-28.
The Hawks attempted their comeback early in the second half as Milan's jumper with 16:46 brought their deficit down to six points. SDC would fight and stay within reach until the Firestorm started pulling away with less than nine minutes left, keeping a double-digit lead.
The Firestorm shot an impressive 54.5 percent from the floor, including 8-of-20 from beyond the arc. The Hawks finished with a hair under 40 percent.
SDC will be back on the court on Saturday as the host Vanguard starting at 7:30 p.m. at Grossmont College.
