EL CAJON, Calif. – Looking for another Top 25 win, the Hawks were unable to upset No. 16 William Jessup as the Warriors defeated the SDC 97-81 Thursday night.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The Warriors improve to 14-5 and 4-1 respectively.
In the first two minutes, the Hawks carried a modest 8-4 run to start off. Milan hit a triple and Novsek and Nathan Klekas registered jumpers. The Warriors quickly tied the game 8-8 and kept rolling for a 31-17 lead with 11:45 remaining in the first. WJU led 52-37 at the end of the first 20 minutes.
The Hawks were able to get the deficit within single digits in the second half as Milan added a pair of free throws, SDC trailing 65-56 with 12:36 remaining in the game. WJU again brought their lead into double-digits and kept it that way for the rest of the game.
The Warriors shot well, hitting 56 percent of their field goals including 10-of-20 from beyond the arc. The Hawks were not too far behind with a 48 percent clip.
SDC will travel to Westmont on Saturday.
