EL CAJON, Calif. – The SDC women's basketball team lost 3-straight and five of the last six before heading into Thursday's game against William Jessup.
The Hawks were able to get back in the win column and defeated the Warriors 61-58. With the win, SDC improves to 13-5 on the year and 3-4 in conference play. WJU falls to 7-7 and 1-4 in the GSAC.
In the first five minutes, it was all SDC as they broke out to an 8-0 run. The Warriors, however, answered with a 13-4 run to close out the quarter to take a 1-point lead after the first.
Trailing 16-13, the Hawks went on another big run. A 10-0 outburst gave SDC a 7-point lead with three minutes left until the half. A Perales jumper with 22 seconds before half, kept the lead at seven for the Hawks.
The Hawks grew their lead by as much as eight in the third quarter before the Warriors came back again. A 15-7 difference tied the game late in the third. Lam added a bucket before the buzzer to squash the run made by WJU and would later hold on for the win.
SDC was outrebounded 47-34 but forced 12 more turnovers that led to 20 points.
The Hawks will have a short turnaround as they head up north to take on Westmont on Saturday.
