EL CAJON, Calif. -- Trailing by just one point heading into the second half, TMU's halftime pep talk seemed to work as the Mustangs defeated the SDC women's basketball team 71-57 Wednesday night.
TMU outscored the Hawks 45-32 in the second.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 12-4 overall and 2-3 in the GSAC. The No. 17 Mustangs improve to 11-4 on the season and 2-3 in conference.
Danna Robles started the scoring off on the night with a jumper a minute in. Both teams exchanged baskets throughout the first quarter with five ties in the opening 10 minutes. Tied 23-23 with 24 seconds remaining, Robles hit another field goal to give the Hawks a 2 point lead. The Mustangs went down the floor the very next play and hit a 3-pointer to take the 1-point lead into halftime.
In the third, Saskia Giesselbach converted on her layup attempt to give the Hawks the lead again, 33-32. Whitney Braeutigam hit a free throw with 3:06 in the third which was the last lead the Hawks would have the rest of the game.
Robles tallied a team-high 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Giesselbach was next with 10 points. SDC shot just 37 percent from the floor and a cold 29.2 from beyond the arc.
The Hawks will host Biola on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Grossmont College.
