PHOENIX -- Trailing by as much as 15 points in the second quarter, the SDC women's basketball team came just shy on their comeback as they fell to the Firestorm 67-62 Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 12-3 overall and 2-3 in the GSAC. The Firestorm improve to 9-6 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.
Natalie Perales led the Hawks with 22 points and added five assists. Ny Lam was two rebounds short of a double-double finishing the game with 12 points and eight boards.
Perales scored the opening bucket of the game just 21 seconds into the contest. That, however, would be the only lead the Hawks would have all game as Arizona Christian powered through the first half with a 12-point lead.
SDC made attempted their comeback quickly into the third quarter. Danna Robles converted on one of her free throw attempts to bring the deficit down to two points with four minutes left in the third. The two-point spread was the closest the Hawks would get the rest ofthe game. After Lam's bucket in the fourth, it brought the deficit back down to two points again but ACU held serve for the win.
The Hawks shot just 34.5 percent from the floor, while the Firestorm was at a higher clip of 43 percent. ACU also forced 30 turnovers that turned into 18 points.
SDC will host the Master's University in their next contest on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Grossmont College.
