SANTEE, Calif. – Molly Witzmann accomplished something no one from the SDC volleyball team has done since 2003 – be named to the All-GSAC Team.
The senior middle blocker had 206 kills and 77 total blocks on the year and was a crucial piece for the Hawks who finished sixth in one of the toughest conferences in the country.
"Molly is a fantastic player and strong presence on the court," Head Coach Barb Wnek said. "She was solid for us with her attacking and blocking against the toughest GSAC opponents. In addition, she is one of the most loved and respected players among her teammates.
"It is a reflection of where the program is going. We have several that we believe will follow in Molly's footsteps with GSAC recognition in the future due to their hard work and dedication. God has blessed this program with some great talent!"
Molly ends her career at SDC 405 kills and 178 total blocks.
"Molly was so deserving of this award both in her team-focused leadership and her outstanding athletic abilities," Associate Head Coach Rachel Minton added. "She was the glue that held our team together and the entire team is sad she is graduating but is also so happy that she could cap off her collegiate career with this award.
"The volleyball all conference team is very exclusive and only 14 players can be voted in, so it takes a very high level athlete to make the list. Molly ended the season both on the GSAC blocking leaderboard as well as hitting percentage, so she had objective numbers that spoke for her. This is a big step forward for our program to prove that we have players that can contend with any player in this competitive conference. It has been more than a decade since the last time one of ours made that exclusive list, but we hope to not wait that long to add another one."
