EL CAJON, Calif. – A 6-run seventh inning capped by a Patrick Vizcaino 3-run homer gave the SDC baseball team enough runs to close out an 8-3 win against Bethesda on Tuesday.
The Hawks scored their eight runs in two innings and improved to 22-17 on the year. The Flames drop to 24-21 finishing the series against SDC 0-2.
A bases loaded walk gave the Flames a 1-0 lead in the second inning. With one out and the bases still loaded, SDC starter Caleb Rodusky, escaped without any more damage with a strikeout and a fly out.
Two runs in the bottom half of the inning gave SDC their first lead of the game. With one out, Vizcaino doubled to right center. A groundout and a single through the right side scored Vizcaino tying the game. Carlos Ochoa singled through the middle plating Steven Pico for the second run of the inning.
Four innings later, the Hawks erupted for their six runs.
Pico led off, reaching on a throwing error by the Bethesda first baseman. Ochoa followed with a walk. With one out, Bobby Mead tallied an RBI single scoring Ochoa. The hits kept coming as Stephen Haviar drove in David Vega with a single for a 4-1 lead. Mead later scored on a wild pitch before Vizcaino drilled a breaking pitch over the left field fence leading 8-1.
The Flames scattered some hits and scored some late runs but the Hawks shut the door.
Ben Parker was tabbed with the win as Rodusky only went two innings.
The Hawks will travel to Poway High to take on Saint Katherine in a 3-game series. Friday's contest starts at 6 p.m. before the double header on Saturday at 3 p.m.
