LA MIRADA, Calif. – Hoping to garner a win in the 3-game series against Biola, the SDC baseball team came from behind in Saturday's victory over the Eagles 7-5.
With the win, SDC improves to 19-16 overall and 11-13 in conference play. The Eagles drop to 23-19 and 12-9 respectively.
The Hawks, again, jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the second. Steven Pico hit a 2 RBI single to right field scoring Caeden Barnes and Justin DiStefano. Ryan Alvarez later hit a sac fly to center scoring Brooks Fages from third for the 3-0 lead.
After Biola tallied four runs in the bottom of the third, Stephan Haviar hit an RBI groundout, tying the game at 4-4 after five innings.
The Eagles added a run in the sixth before the Hawks made their comeback in the eighth inning.
Pico came up big again hitting another 2 RBIs, this one a double to right center. David Vega's RBI single to center plated Pico to end all scoring.
Pico led the team with 4 RBI and tied with three this. Seven different players scored a run.
SDC starter Jeremiah Wiley was tagged for five runs, all earned, while allowing eight hits and four strikeouts. Mark Young earned the win in relief throwing a scoreless three innings and fanning three Eagles batters.
The Hawks travel to Phoenix and take on Arizona Christian for a 3-game series starting on Friday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
