With the loss, the Hawks fall to 10-11 overall and 3-8 in GSAC play. The Royals improve to 21-4 on the season and 9-2 in conference.
SDC held the bigger advantage in the first half as they led by as much as eight points with 4:43 remaining in the half. Dunklin made two of his 31 points as his jumper gave SDC a 34-26 lead.
The lead would be no more at halftime as the Royals fought back to tie the game at 40-40 as both teams hit the locker room.
Angulo made the first points in the second half by either team as SDC retook the lead. Tied 52-52, Angulo was at it again as his 3-pointer with 15:06 remaining gave SDC the slight 3-point edge.
The Royals took the lead for good with 12:58 to go in the game.
HIU had six in double figures. They shot 65 percent from the field and 4-for-8 from 3-point range. They outrebounded the Hawks 42-20 in the game.
SDC is back on the court Saturday as they host No. 22 Arizona Christian starting at 4 p.m. at Grossmont College.
