LA MIRADA, Calif. – Biola shot 55 percent from the field and held a 45-27 rebound advantage to defeat the SDC men's basketball team Tuesday night 84-75.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 9-8 overall and 2-5 in GSAC play. The No. 11 Eagles improve to 20-3 on the season and 7-2 in conference.
The Eagles stormed out to a 14-5 run in the opening five minutes. A Michael Angulo layup brought the deficit down to one with 11 minutes until halftime. But the Eagles responded with a 9-0 run to increase their lead back to 10. Dalante Dunklin's bucket with 3:30 remaining in the half was the last field goal made by either team as Biola led 37-35 at the break.
Back-to-back Hawks baskets gave them their first lead of the game. Nathan Klekas hit a 3-pointer in the corner to give SDC the 38-37 lead. Trevor English stole the ball and went the distance for a fast-break layup to increase the lead to 40-37.
But, again, Biola retook the lead and this time didn't look back. The Hawks came close a couple of times of tying the game but the Eagles held serve throughout.
The Hawks shot 40 percent from the field and only turned the ball over a season-low six times.
SDC is back on the court on Saturday as the host No. 15 Westmont at 7:30 p.m. at Grossmont College.
