ROCKLIN, Calif. – Dalante Dunklin scored a team-high 19 points and three other Hawks were in double figures but SDC fell to William Jessup Saturday afternoon 78-69.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 9-7 overall and 2-4 in GSAC play. The Warriors improve to 12-5 on the season and 4-2 in conference.
For the first 10 minutes, both teams traded leads and no lead reached five points until a Warriors basket and free throw with 9:41 remaining in the half.
The Hawks battled back and took the lead thanks to Mark Eden's 3-pointer with 2:08 in the first for their first lead since the 16:37 mark. The Warriors regained the lead at 33-31 and led by that margin at the break.
William Jessup came out firing in the second, running out to an 8-1 run for a 9-point lead. Their lead was as big as 16 before the Hawks started to mount their comeback.
English's 3-pointer and jumper erased the deficit to just six points with 1:21 remaining. But the Warriors held on for the crucial conference win.
SDC shot 36.4 percent from the floor and just 9-of-32 (28.1) from beyond the arc.
The Hawks will have 10 days off before their next game as they travel to No. 10 Biola on Jan. 26 with tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
