LA MIRADA, Calif. – After putting on an offensive show the day before, the Hawks Baseball team dropped both games in the double-header against Biola on Saturday, losing 13-5 in Game 1 and 10-7 in Game 2.
With the two losses, the Hawks fall to 10-38 overall and 9-30 in conference play. The Eagles improve to 20-28 on the season and 14-25 in the GSAC.
In Game 1, Biola didn't waste any time scoring, plating six runs in the bottom of the first and chased SDC starter Spencer Long (SR/Phoenix, AZ) out of the game. Long threw .2 innings with four hits and six runs, five earned.
But the Hawks did have an answer.
Austin Yeoman (SO/Norwalk, CA) singled home Justin de la Nuez from third for the first run in the second. SDC then scored four runs in the third. Lejon Baker (SR/Los Angeles, CA) tripled down the right field line driving home two. Baker then scored from a Brock Asher (SR/Aiea, Hawaii) single. SDC added another run before the third inning trailing 6-5.
Unfortunately the Hawks didn't score any more runs the rest of the game and the Eagles did.
Justin Distefano (JR/Bonita, CA) knocked a team-high four hits, going 4-5 with a run.
Game 2 started off well for SDC as they scored three runs in the opening inning. But Biola scored four in the bottom half to take a 4-3 lead. The Eagles scored four runs in the second to take a commanding 8-3 lead. SDC chipped away late at their deficit but it wasn't enough. The Hawks scored two runs in the sixth and seventh.
The Hawks travel to Cal State San Marcos on Tuesday before ending the season at Arizona Christian on a 3-game series starting on Friday.
