LA MIRADA, Calif. – Lejon Baker (SR/Los Angeles, CA) went 5-5 including two homers and six RBI and the San Diego Christian College Baseball team defeated Biola 17-8 Friday in the series opener.
The win snaps the Hawks' 11-game losing streak and improves their record to 10-36 overall and 9-28 in conference play. The Eagles fall to 18-28 on the season and 12-25 in the GSAC.
SDC starter, Gio Ochoa (JR/Indio, CA), threw seven innings allowing nine hits, three runs, two earned, while striking out seven for the win.
The Hawks scored a run in the second on a sacrifice bunt but then saw themselves trailing 3-1 to the Eagles after three innings. SDC grabbed a run back in the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Baker then drilled his first homerun to center field to give the Hawks a 5-3 lead in the fifth. Baker hit his second homer the next inning, another 3-run shot to pad SDC's to 8-3 after six innings. The Hawks continued their scoring barrage in the eighth inning, dropping a six spot. Justin DiStefano highlighted the inning with a 3-run homer of his own.
The Eagles added three in the bottom of the eighth and two in the ninth.
SDC will face off against Biola for a double-header Saturday starting at noon.
