COSTA MESA, Calif- The San Diego Christian College Baseball team lost an early lead in Game 1 and couldn't't complete the comeback in Game 2 as they were swept Saturday by Vanguard.
The Lions defeated the Hawks 12-7 in the first game and 4-2 in the second.
Game one was a slugfest as both teams scored a collective total of nineteen runs off of eight pitchers.
The first inning ended with no runs scored for either team, but in the second, SDC put the first run on the scoreboard as Brock Asher (SR/Aiea, Hawaii) tripled to left center eventually scoring by an RBI single by Austin Yeoman (SO/Norwalk, CA). SDC scored three more runs that inning putting them up 4-0.
Vanguard bounced back and scored three runs in the bottom of that inning cutting the deficit, 4-3. Neither team scored in the third inning but the Lions took the lead by scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The go-ahead run was scored by Jose Rojas' RBI double to left.
Even SDC recorded fifteen hits throughout the game, Vanguard's offense didn't't wane as they scored twelve total runs off of thirteen hits.
For the second game, SDC sent Zach Koprowski (SR/Tucson, AZ) to the mound to face off against Vanguard's Jordan Moak. Koprowski pitched six innings gave up four runs and had one strikeout in the series sweep by the Lions. Moak pitched 5.2 innings allowing only two runs and striking out four.
After Brett Collins walked, he advanced to second on a wild pitch and was moved over to third on a groundout. Paul Keating singled to center field and batted in Collins to take an early 1-0 Vanguard lead. SDC would never see the lead in game two and fell to 3-13 overall and 2-13 in GSAC play. Home team Vanguard improved to 12-3 overall while improving to 9-3 in conference.
